The DICOM Simulator Node is designed for testing and bench-marking systems. It can be configured to create fictitious DICOM studies to be sent on at a configurable rate and allows the network to be tested before any inbound communications are required.
Care should be taken when using the DICOM simulator as it can generate large numbers of studies and images in short periods of time. Limits can be set on the number threads that are used to create new entries. If the “generate data” option is selected, then dummy modality data is created and sent to the output node. An upper limit on the number generated can be specified after selecting the option to generate a fixed number of studies. Similarly, the simulator can be configured to run for a fixed period of time.
